Secondary School Program

‘Face the Facts’ is a secondary school drug education program which uses a harm minimisation approach to assist schools in implementing their drug education policy and initiatives which promote student well-being and connectedness.

Secondary School Program Summary

“Crossroads” Deluxe Package

Life Education Educators will present student sessions on the content of Focus Area 2: Drug Issues. In addition, Educators will assist your staff to coordinate specialists from the community to present workshops covering relevant aspects of some content of Focus Area 1: Working at Relationships (e.g. police, Mission Australia, local area health service).

“Crossroads” Standard Package

Our Educator will present student sessions on the content of Focus Area 2: Drug Issues and some content from Focus Area 1: Working at Relationships. In this package, the Educator is not involved in coordinating outside agencies or specialists.

7-10 Secondary School Program

In 2005, our secondary schools program “Face the Facts” commenced in the Sydney Metropolitan, Hunter, upper Hunter, Mid North Coast and the Central Coast areas and has, so far, seen over 30,000 students.

“Face the Facts Workshops”

Schools have a choice of four (4) interactive workshops:

  • Tobacco – (Years 7-8)
  • Alcohol – (Years 7-10)
  • Cannabis – (Years 7-10)
  •  Legal and Illegal Drugs – (Years 9-11)

All workshops are based on a collaborative learning model and feature group work, audio-visual aids, relationship/team building activities, games and opportunities for students to be creative.

Workshop structure

  • Life Education workshops generally run for 1- 1.5hrs each. Ideally class sizes or a maximum of 50 students per workshop is ideal, to allow for hands on interactive activities.
  • Where possible workshops can be adapted to work into the schools timetable. All programs can be negotiated to meet the needs of the school.

High School Resource Books

  • All participating schools will receive teacher resource books & CDs which include pre and post interactive lesson plans which meet the PDHPE Syllabus requirements.
  • The resource books are a great tool for teachers providing engaging lesson activities such as web quests, individual and group activities. The books provide some background reading for teachers and links to other resources.  The books are designed to compliment the school’s and PDHPE drug and health initiatives.

Bookings / Costs & Funding

  • “Face the Facts” Workshop Programs can be invoiced at $250 per session or $600 per day.
  •  Some general and/or targeted funding may be available to eligible schools through community partnerships and other funds raised by Hunter Life Education. In this case programs are subsidized to preferred schools in a first in basis.
